Since I started cycling, I’ve struggled to find the perfect cycling short. For this reason I’ve become loyal to bib shorts for their sleek coverage and comfort. When I had bought my first few pair of cycling shorts, I got very annoyed with waistbands rolling down, pronouncing muffin top, gut ache and the irritation of seams and bands rubbing against my skin. As I turned to bib shorts, I’ve come to a few of my own issues I would prefer not having to deal with like the accessibility issue when trying to get to the toilet. Knowing the benefits of both types of shorts, I knew my search wasn’t over. Now, my woes with both are now solvable with these perfect Little Black Cycling Shorts by Lexi Miller Cycling Apparel.
For women, cycling shorts (sans bib) are the regular preference for obvious reasons of strap interference with bib shorts. The choice of shorts is always a personal one, as trying bib shorts can seem a little intimidating. With bib shorts you get a seamless look and all your curves are held together that most cycling shorts miss. However, I urge anyone who is curious to try cycling shorts for the first time or who want an alternative from bibs to give the little black cycling short a spin. Even I was skeptical at first but I promise they do not disappoint!
Here are a few reasons why these really are the perfect little black cycling shorts.
Waistband
When I had tried the little black cycling short, I found that they hugged all the right places seamlessly without squeezing at the waist. The stretchy waistband reminded me of bib tights sans straps were it sat higher on the waist to collect sweat (perfect for hot days) and overlaps with a jersey so you won’t flash your back when reaching for your pony tail to fix. Without the squeezing, or pinching my muffin top, I could easily move and that meant everything on my ride without worrying about the waistband rolling down or squeezing my gut. It stays in it’s place and provides a seamless hold of all your curves for a classy slim look.
Material
With the perfect amount of compression, you can tell the material in these shorts are intended for athletic performance by keeping a very firm fit without shifting, feeling uncomfortable, or squeezing any parts of my legs. The compression fabrics and seams are positioned to support and stabilize the muscles to reduce fatigue when you’re on the saddle for hours or want to hammer it out on a training session. The seams on the thigh replace normal elastic grips we usually see in cycling shorts and do not rub. While at first, the seams on the thighs did squeeze part of my leg, however, it did not rub or bother me and seemed to mold into my thighs after a few wears. It’s really important that leg grips are smooth, as the up and down motions can cause chafing easily in rough spots but that is not an issue at all with these.
Design
The design of the shorts are clearly functional because you only get the full benefits of compression if the shorts fit you properly and help support the positioning of the chamois. The chamois in these shorts features foam densities for the ultimate comfort, freedom of movement in the saddle, protection for sensitive areas and optimum breathability to transport moisture. When riding, the chamois placement was perfect while my sit bones sat comfortably without shifting, pinching, or pulling pubic hair. Seams around the chamois did not bother either.
Not for a moment did I even think about what was going on down there on rides and that’s a big win!
There are a vast number of shorts available to accommodate your riding function, comfort, and style. The bottom line is that if you’re interested in cycling shorts instead of bib shorts, the Little Black Cycling Short are what you need to take you on the next ride. If you’re not wearing cycling shorts already, you have the chance to experience a whole new world of cycling comfort.
The Little Black Cycling Short comes in size between 2-12 and are the same fit of Lululemon sizes. Aside from the little black cycling shorts, the brand also provides feminine and functional cycling jersey’s to accommodate the classy style of the shorts.
