Despite longer darker days, some drawbacks to cycling are the changing weather patterns. Dressing for cooler autumn days can be a little tricky when it comes to rain and a biting chill, especially when we’ve been riding after a few minutes and start to feel too hot.
With a few pieces in your autumn kit, you can ride between ‘too hot’ and ‘too cold’ smoothly with these essentials.
Arm and Leg Warmers
Arm and leg warmers can transform your entire comfort. They can transform short sleeved tops and shorts into more autumn ready wear. If you find yourself warmer after a few miles, you can slip them off and put them away.
Packable Jacket
A light packable jacket is one way to certainly endure a brisk breeze on your ride. A rain jacket can be handy too. A packable can be easily carried in your bag and whipped out for those rainy rides. Although you can’t always avoid the inevitable, it’s always good to be prepared for it.
Gilet
Somedays may be warmer than others and you may not need a jacket. However, carrying a gilet can definitely be handy when you need an extra layer. Some gilets also come with high viz designs to keep you in sight as well.
Gloves
A pair of long fingered gloves are great when your hands are greatly impacted by the chill while your legs are doing the hard work. On colder days, they can be used as a layer for extra comfort too.
Socks
A great pair of merino wool socks are perfect for keeping your toes moisture free and warm. Another option to keeping feet warm is to wear softshell booties over your shoes.
