I’m back and I made a zine! This is Bike Talk, feminist bikey rants from this blogs segment of Bike Talk from 2010-2019. This is just the first volume but there’s plenty of bike talk to dish out a I make my return to blogging.
After a few years away, I’ve been thinking a lot about my relationship to social media, sponsored posts, ads, and my desire to divest and abolish the colonial gaze and assimilation to a system and culture that is not kind to women, trans and femmes of color on Instagram. I’ve also had my fair share of hostility towards Cyclista Zine from the bike industry in the last year which I will share with you as I return to blogging.
After a conversation with my fellow zinesters and friends @gearsforqueers about social media censorship and targeting activists and environmentalist, I know it’s time go to back to my roots of diy print.
As corporate social media is becoming more hostile, thanks to the Biden administration, I will be reviving this blog and creating more zines. My goal is to divest content from social media where my ownership to content is lost, use this space as an archive, write and free myself from social media over time. Cyclista Zine will also take a smaller presence on IG too. Zines in nature are short lived but I plan on sticking to it and other forms of zine making in the meantime.
I will still be serving the anti-colonial and anti patriarchy shit talking feminist energy you love, just on this platform.
This first volume of Bike Talk is heavily centered on my early experiences of bike advocacy and commuting in SF. I clearly have changed my approach to bike advocacy over time as stages of my life have evolved.
Anyways, if you want a copy of this zine or just want to bookmark the blog to keep tabs on more rants, feel free to do so.
Glad you are back blogging, Christina! Look forward to more posts.
