Hey Friends!
It’s Christina here! You may have already heard, but I wanted to share here that I have some heartfelt news to share. As we approach a significant transition at Cyclista Zine this summer, I wanted to take a moment to reflect and update you on what’s next for CZ’s cherished community and supporters.
Cyclista Zine has been an incredible journey, filled with the rewarding experience of creating and curating feminist media in the outdoors. From day one, it’s been more than just a publication; it’s been a vibrant platform for diverse voices in the cycling world. Each issue brought new perspectives and challenged the status quo, enriching our community and making it more inclusive. The conversations we’ve had—tackling tough topics of representation, accessibility, and the sheer joy of cycling—have been profoundly fulfilling. It’s been an honor to be part of these dialogues and to see the change our voices can create.
However, life’s evolving challenges require us to adapt. This summer, Cyclista Zine will be shuttering its regular publication to focus on a project that encapsulates the essence of what we’ve built: “The Cyclista Zine Collection.” This book, set to release this fall, will compile the most impactful stories we’ve shared, preserving the legacy and transformative narratives that have defined us. It’s a bittersweet moment, but I’m excited about the opportunities it brings to deepen our impact in new ways.
Supporting and funding feminist independent media has been incredibly challenging, especially in today’s tough economic and social environment. We’ve navigated through the tumult of an uprising, elections, a global pandemic, wars, and economic turbulence. Despite these hurdles, we’ve worked tirelessly to give hope and drive change through this platform and our amazing community. Personally, I’ve also struggled with burnout. My mental health like many us who went through loss and grief through this pandemic, has also has taken its toll and I have been on a journey to rekindle my love for bikes—a love that sparked this whole revolution.
For those who have been with me over the years, you know the path I’ve blazed in this industry and that my mission will continue. While Cyclista Zine is transitioning, I’ll be continuing my ongoing collaboration with Terra Incognita Media. For the latest updates and more feminist media in the outdoors, you can visit Terra Incognita Media, and of course, continue to follow along here at City Girl Rides. I’ll be sharing my adventures, book recommendations, and feminist killjoy thoughts on cycling culture right here with you all.
This transition is both an ending and a new beginning. While I’m closing one chapter, the spirit of Cyclista Zine—the sense of community, advocacy, and shared stories—will continue to thrive in new and dynamic ways. Your support and engagement mean the world to me, and I’m grateful to have you as part of this journey.
Thank you for believing in this work and being such a vital part of it. Here’s to the next part of our adventure together. I look forward to sharing “The Cyclista Zine Collection” with you and hearing your thoughts as we continue to ride forward.
Peace, love, and bicycle grease,
Christina
P.S. It feels great to be back here, sharing this journey with all of you. Let’s keep pedaling and turning pages together. I have some events and bikey books to come 🚴♀️📚
